Please join us for the 2023 Early Learning Fall Institute on October 6-7 with pre-institute session on October 5. The Fall Institute brings together early childhood professionals from across the state for a unique professional development opportunity. We invite you to join us as we network, share and learn together.

Pre-Institute Workshop- October 5th 8:30 am-4:00 pm
To earn teacher renewal credit through AEA you will need to register for and attend the Pre-Institute workshop along with the three follow-up sessions. To earn HHS credit through I-PoWeR, you can register for and attend the pre-institute workshop or the complete course with three follow-up workshops as well
Special Appearance by Judy Harris Helm

Judy Harris Helm assists early childhood programs in integrating research through writing, consulting and training. She began teaching first grade and then, after completing her doctorate, returned to the classroom as Lead Teacher of four-year-old’s. Dr. Helm taught, directed, and designed early childhood and primary programs and taught at the community college, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Most recently, she studied Mind Brain Education at Johns Hopkins and Harvard Universities. She is the past state president of the Illinois Association for the Education of Young Children. Among the nine books she has authored, coauthored, or edited are Growing Child Intellect: The Manifesto for Engaged Learning; Becoming Young Thinkers: Deep Project Work in the Classroom; and Young Investigators: The Project Approach in the Early Years. All books are published by Teachers College Press, with a number co-published with NAEYC.

Attendees will select the workshops they will attend at the time of registration. You can download the workshop booklet below to read the descriptions of the workshops that will be offered at the Fall Institute. If you are registering multiple people you can download the guide below to help organize each attendee’s selections.

Cancellation Policy:
If you must cancel, refunds can be made if cancellation notice is received via email to jonni@iowaaeyc.org by September 25, 2023 at 5:00 pm. After September 25 absolutely no refunds can be given and all registered attendees must pay registration fees.

Friday Keynote Speaker – Holly Elissa Bruno

Holly Elissa Bruno will guide us in exploring Happiness is running through the streets to find you even during a pandemic. When the world flips upside down, children need stable, unflappable adults to reassure them all is well. But who reassures us adults? Traumatic times bring out our worst and our best. Let’s together identify HOPEFUL everyday leadership practices to serve as our lighthouse during this pandemic storm.
Saturday Keynote Speaker – Jason Kotecki

Join artist Jason Kotecki, author of “A Chance of Awesome: How Changing the Way You See Changes Everything” as he inspires us to live a rich and balanced life, amidst the busyness. Learn how to become more productive by turning stress into laughter and having more fun every day. A refreshing, positive and upbeat Saturday morning keynote.
I-PoWeR(HHS Child Care Training Registry)
If you are a participant in the HHS Workforce Registry please make sure to click here to enroll through I-PoWeR by September 25 so Iowa AEYC can process your enrollment for each session of the Institute you attend.

You will need to sign in at each workshop if you would like to receive training credit. All sessions will earn HHS training credit. 6.0 credit hours are available each day.
Graduate Credit and License Renewal Credit Option

Northwestern College is offering one license renewal credit or one graduate credit to licensed teachers who attend the Fall Institute and complete required follow up activities. One License Renewal Credit $35 | One Graduate Credit $150. To be eligible for the credit you must:
Step 1: Pre-register online before the institute or register at the Northwestern College exhibit table Friday morning before the first session begins;
Step 2: Attend the Institute all day both Friday and Saturday;
Step 3: Meet with a Northwestern professor over the lunch hour both days of the Institute;
Step 4: Following the Institute, those completing a graduate credit must complete the required follow-up activities noted in the syllabus.
This credit will be accepted for the Iowa teacher licensure renewal credit. Please check with your higher education institution to ensure this credit will be accepted towards a degree. To register visit: https://www.nwciowa.edu/events/iaaeyc
